"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil." (Eph. 6:10-12)

One morning I was given an opportunity to set a captive free from Satan’s grip. My phone rang at two am. I picked it up and heard the panicked voice of Steve, a young man I knew. “I’m really in trouble. There are demons all over me and in the room. You have to come over to my apartment now! I've been saying the name of Jesus and nothing changes. I need you to come and pray. I took some drugs. I'm standing at the gates of Hell and I'm being pulled in. I've called on Jesus to help me, but He's not. My roommates are here and we are really scared." I answered, “I’ll be right over." Instantly, the Holy Spirit gave me a Word of Knowledge about the situation. I said to Steve, "Stay in your apartment. Don't try to run away from the demons. Their strategy is to get you into a car and harm you through an accident. Don't leave. You're safer in the apartment. Stay there. I'm on my way."
While driving to the apartment, I prayed in tongues and put on my spiritual armor as I always do before entering a spiritual battle. Then I asked the Lord Jesus to go ahead of me to fight this battle and for angels to be sent to assist me. When I knocked on the apartment door, I became aware of God's anointing on me. I knew I was carrying the presence of Jesus into this situation. I wasn't sure what I was about to confront, but I was fearless. I knew I was protected and the anointing would destroy the yoke of bondage setting the captive free. As the door opened, to my horror Steve’s skin was blue white. His eyes had dark circles under them. I'd never seen anyone on drugs before. His breathing was on the verge of hyperventilation. His roommates were huddled together on the living room floor watching Steve go through the frightening throes of spiritual oppression and demonic possession.
Steve yelled, “Can you see them crawling all over me? Get them off of me!” He held out his arms for me to examine as he stared into my eyes for recognition that I too saw the dragon scales on his arms. I did see dragon scales on Steve's arms along with the demon who was possessing him. As I looked around the room there were many other demons of all shapes and sizes watching the ordeal Steve was going through. I looked into the young man’s eyes and calmly answered, “Yes, I see them.” God opens my eyes to see demons, so that I know what I'm contending with and how to defeat them by understanding their strategy. Each time I feel a surge of power shoot through me to take authority over them. This time was no different.
The Holy Spirit instructed me to separate Steve from his roommates by taking him into another room to pray for him.
I guided Steve into the room and shut the door. As I stood before him, I said, “I know the Lord Jesus will fight for you. He loves you deeply. He won’t let go of you.” With that said, I put my hands on his chest and prayed, “Father I come to you in Jesus name. I ask you to release Steve from the hold of Satan the Dragon. In Jesus name, I take authority over the principalities and dark powers that are here. You’ve been uncovered. Take your hands off of Steve and leave by the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the cross. Leave now!" Instantly, I saw the demons leave and a peace filled the young man. I noticed his heart began to beat at a much slower pace. His skin returned to a healthy radiant glow. Then Steve prayed. “Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart. I surrender my music, my posters, drugs, and my life into your hands. I will serve you all the days of my life. Save me.” As he was praying joy beamed from him. Within a matter of moments he was smiling and in his right mind. The effects of the drugs were gone.
Steve's roommates knocked on the door and asked if they could come in. They told us at one point during our prayer time, they saw demons jumping out of the room we were in and into the living room. This frightened them so much they were willing to come into the room where the “light” was. I understood they weren’t referring to light created by light bulbs, but the light of Christ’s presence. They sat down on the floor with Steve. He began telling his roommates about Jesus and the freedom he just experienced. Before the morning was over, the roommates received prayer also. This was the start of Steve's new beginning. Now, he is a devoted Jesus follower, a carrier of Christ's presence, and a mighty Dragon Slayer.
